![]() Protesters demand "Stop Junky John" |
|
A protest group assembled outside the City Hall today to express their displeasure with the band Kill Allen Wrench. This time focusing specifically on drummer and Chief Financial Officer Junky John Wohlfeil's latest efforts to have an off track wagering center built in the area. Beginning more than a year ago, Wohlfeil has submitted plans to build a state of the art gambling hall near downtown, focusing mainly on horse racing. Planning and design of the new off track wagering center and players hall was wholly funded by Wohlfeil. The plans have been submitted to the city council to appoint a bill that will allow construction on the proposed site in downtown. The bill has been approved by local planning commission and the plans are before the board of directors for the city awaiting final approval. In an interview John Wohlfeil stated, "We have all of the funding we need to complete the construction of the complex, and pay the workers salaries for the first year. Getting the money was never a problem."The opposition group claims that Wohlfeil threw large "drinking" parties for local businessmen and politicians to help rally support for the new center. There are reports of illegal gambling, prostitution and under aged drinking going on at these parties. Opposition group leader Lori Carter says the new gambling hall will create a negative image in the downtown area and states, "local government should focus their efforts on the children, and not on gambling." She goes on to say, "this another low life move by this group of terrible losers, we wish they would leave our town and leave us alone." Wohlfeil has another party scheduled for October 31 at the Four Seasons Hotel. Every member of the cities board of directors have been invited, and plan to attend. The plans should be approved by election day, November 7. |
